FAQ's

What is the Andover Advantage Foundation?
Andover Advantage is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization founded in 1996 by a group of concerned citizens whose goal was to provide Andover students with education opportunities above and beyond those provided by the state.

Why do we need a private foundation to support public education?
The legislation is mandated by the state constitution to provide an "adequate" education for every student. Ensuring the tradition of excellence that has made Andover a top-rated, sought after school system requires greater resources than those provided by the state.

Don't my taxes support the schools?
Local property taxes are paid directly to the state. The legislature annually appropriates funds back to local school districts through a complex funding formula. As a result of this formula, school districts do not receive the same amount of funding per student. In comparison to other districts, Andover ranks among the lowest school districts in the state in terms of per pupil funding. While costs continue to climb, no allowance is made in this complex funding formula for inflation.

The Andover community has supported two bond elections. Where is this money being spent?
The bond monies support new schools for the district. This money does not provide teachers with all of the learning tools needed to better instruct our students.

How are funds donated to Andover Advantage used?
Funds donated to Andover Advantage are used exclusively for educational experiences that include teacher grants, programs that directly benefit students, and equipment to supplement programs that challenge students at all levels. We do not replace state and local funds for school operating expenses. For additonal information, see our Grants page.

What are Academic Advantage Grants?
Each year, teachers and staff apply for Academic Grants. Through this competitive grant process, Andover Advantage encourages Andover teachers to expand existing curriculum and develop new and innovative approaches to teaching.

Are grants limited to a particular area of study?
No. Grants have been awarded in nearly every area of academics including, but not limited to, math, science, foreign languages, social studies, physical education, music and special education.

How can I give?
Your tax deductible gift to Andover Advantage can be made by cash or check, Visa or Mastercard or in marketable securities. For more information, see our Donations page.

Will my employer match my gift to Andover Advantage?
Some employers will match gifts to 501(C)3 organizations. If your company participates in a matching gift program, please submit your company's appropriate form along with your gift. It's a great way to double your gift to a very worthy cause.
